Course Description: During the first semester, this course is primarily a language arts course concentrating on vocabulary study, grammar/usage/mechanics, and writing skills. The second semester continues with language arts objectives and introduces various literary types and forms, including drama, poetry, short stories and essays in world literature.

Prentice Hall Literature Gold. Prentice-Hall, 2005.
Vocabulary Workshop. Sadlier-Oxford, 2002.
Grammar for Writing. Sadlier-Oxford 2000.

Grading Policy:
• All assignments (evaluation methods) are given specific point values. Students will try to earn as many points as possible.
• To estimate student's grade, total the number of points earned and divide by the total number of points possible. See GradeConnect for current average.
• The final course grade is computed as the average of both semester grades.
Supplies Needed:
• Loose leaf paper
• Pocket folder-can be part of notebook (for handouts, worksheets, etc.)
Note: GradeConnect will include homework assignments and important dates for tests, quizzes, and projects. All grades for tests, quizzes, projects, and homework assignments will be posted.

When a student is absent for a test or quiz, it must be made up on the day the student returns to school.

If you miss a test or quiz due to absence, you must take the quiz on the day you return.
