Course Description: During the first semester, this course is primarily a language arts course concentrating on vocabulary study, grammar/usage/mechanics, and writing skills. The second semester continues with language arts objectives and introduces various literary types and forms, including drama, poetry, short stories and essays in world literature.
Textbooks:
Prentice Hall Literature Gold. Prentice-Hall, 2005. Vocabulary Workshop. Sadlier-Oxford, 2002. Grammar for Writing. Sadlier-Oxford 2000.

Evaluation Methods:
Semester Assessments Periodic tests Vocabulary quizzes Periodic quizzes on reading assignments Writing assignments Homework assignments/notebook Class participation/attendance Projects (one per quarter)
Grading Policy:
• All assignments (evaluation methods) are given specific point values. Students will try to earn as many points as possible. • To estimate student's grade, total the number of points earned and divide by the total number of points possible. See GradeConnect for current average. • The final course grade is computed as the average of both semester grades.
Supplies Needed:
• Loose leaf paper • Pocket folder-can be part of notebook (for handouts, worksheets, etc.)
Note: GradeConnect will include homework assignments and important dates for tests, quizzes, and projects. All grades for tests, quizzes, projects, and homework assignments will be posted.

When a student is absent for a test or quiz, it must be made up on the day the student returns to school.

If you miss a test or quiz due to absence, you must take the quiz on the day you return.
